how to play
Press space or the brass plate to start. Touch a plate to light a step. Keys 1–6audition the voices. chance makes a lit step sometimes stay silent, and roll splits it into up to four decaying hits. Switch on CA and the row becomes an elementary cellular automaton on a ring of eight cells: at every bar line its rule rewrites it. With only 28 possible rows, every automaton groove must eventually repeat, and finding its cycle takes polynomial time. That's why the stamp says P.
The studio strip is a small tape machine: drive saturates, tone closes a lowpass, and echo feeds a delay whose speed wobbles under two slow oscillators (wow and flutter), darkening with every repeat.
In homage to Peter Blasser's Ciat-Lonbarde instruments (touch plates, paper circuits, rhythms that drift rather than loop) and to Giorgio Sancristoforo's software studios, which bring the electronic studio's oscillators, filters and tape into the computer. Nothing here is affiliated with either.
